investing $50 billion in thousands of
road and rail projects around
Australia under its Infrastructure
Investing in better road and rail
connections will make it easier for freight
to move across Australia—whether it is
around our cities, our regions or within
states and territories. This will deliver
economic benefits by ensuring the
economy remains competitive and
goods can move effectively.
Better roads and railways will also
deliver social benefits by helping people
travel on safer roads, with less traffic
congestion and faster travel times.
The Infrastructure Investment
Programme will redefine the way people
move around not just their streets and
suburbs, but around entire cities.
The multi-billion dollar WestConnex
project combined with the $3.6 billion
Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan will
significantly improve traffic flow in Sydney
all the way from Penrith into the city.
Work towards a safer, faster Pacific
Highway continues to make good
progress. The Pacific Highway Upgrade
is one of Australia’s largest regional
infrastructure projects. Construction work
on the final 155 kilometre section of the
upgrade, from Woolgoolga to Ballina is
now in full swing. Milestone after
milestone continue to be achieved, with
more than 60 per cent of the final highway
length now upgraded to a four-lane
divided road, and the full upgrade
on track for completion by the end
of the decade.
Adding to this picture is the Australian
Government’s funding of $840 million
towards the near complete Northern
Sydney Freight Corridor. New lines and
passing loops now allow passenger trains
to overtake slow moving freight trains in
the north of Sydney, providing additional
capacity for freight trains without causing
delays for commuters. If you look at the
bigger picture, it is easy to see that the
Australian Government is building now for
a safer, less congested future.
This record breaking investment is all
part of how the Australian Government is
setting Australia up for a more
competitive future, with projects both big
and small. This includes $500 million in
funding to the life-saving Black Spot
Programme, as well as $3.2 billion being
delivered for local road projects through
the Roads to Recovery Programme.
Whether it is getting goods to market
faster or getting you home on time, in
partnership with state and territory
governments, the Australian Government
is Building Our Future.
There are over 1,000 projects under
construction now, so for more information
